Van Kempen is a jewelry designer who’s work focuses on the use of safe medical waste in wearable prices for the body.I was particularly interested in her work on the contraceptive and morning after pills as it relates to the direction of my disrupt project.
I love the way that Van Kempen reclaims empty or expired contraceptive pill packets and combines them with traditional jewelry making materials such as gold, silver, fresh water pearls and leatherette to create pieces that are wearable (probably not in everyday life) and beautiful, yet their origin in the medical world creates a sense of unease
I have empty pill packets that I’ve saved and I’m excited to see what I can create with them in the coming weeks
